Oilfield services company Halliburton hosted a ground breaking ceremony last Thursday, November 17th for their new Eagle Ford Shale Field Camp located at the northeast corner of IH-37 and Loop 1604 in the City of San Antonio, Texas. The groundbreaking ceremony featured company leaders, community and political leaders (Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and former Mayor Henry Cisneros), and members of the design and construction team.

The San Antonio office of BIG RED DOG Engineering | Consulting is pleased to be the civil engineering consultant for this exciting project, which is one of the most significant development projects in San Antonio in several years. Our friends at Multatech Architects and Engineers are leading the design effort and Lyness Construction is the project’s general contractor.

The project is located on a total of 162-acres and will one day employ between 1,000 and 1,500 workers on the property: ”What we are talking about here is employing about 1,500 people,” said Joe Foster, the South Texas area vice president for Halliburton. The Eagle Ford Shale is a 400 mile-long corridor for natural gas drilling that covers land in 24 counties in east and south Texas.

Henry Cisneros, chairman of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, commented during the festivities that the Halliburton announcement is “…the biggest single day of economic development and jobs announcement in San Antonio since Toyota”. The project is expected to be fully operational by early-2013.
