The City of Austin City Council passed a new Heritage Tree Ordinance on February 4th, 2010. Since the passage of this new ordinance, it has become much more feasible for our clients to propose relocation, and thus preservation, of Heritage Trees as opposed to taking their chances at the otherwise requisite public hearing.
BIG RED DOG has been the civil engineer on several projects that required (or will require) relocation of significant trees. For your budgeting purposes, the cost to relocate a tree larger than 24-inches can vary from $2,500-4,500 per caliper inch, depending on the soil conditions, distance of travel, and size of the root ball required to be moved.Several companies provide this service in the Austin area, however we happily recommend Environmental Design for your tree relocation needs.
The video’s below are included for your information and begin to demonstrate the effort required to relocate a significant tree.
